Advocate, Senior Advocate and counsel — what the terms mean
An advocate is a person enrolled with a State Bar Council and entitled to practise law in India. A Senior Advocate is an advocate designated as such by the Supreme Court or a High Court in recognition of standing and experience; Senior Advocates operate under certain professional restrictions. Counsel is a general term for a lawyer appearing in a matter.
